Upskilling the Workforce

Bolt on units to upskill construction tradesmen onsite.

CANO Training Services Ltd has been working on Industrial projects since December 2004.

Our assessors have been working closely with Industry and a number of the specialist trade contractors to deliver National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s) to trades people, site supervisors and site managers.

Achieving an NVQ enables the individual to apply for the appropriate level of skilled trade, supervisor or manager CSCS card. However, we have discovered while out on site, there are many cross overs with tradesmen with what QCF units they could be receiving.

An example of this, is a QCF unit within the Carpentry NVQ called: Setting Up and Using Transportable Cutting and Shaping Machines in the Workplace. There are many drywall operatives that use these cutting tools on an everyday basis and some aren’t trained correctly as doesn’t full in the Interior Systems NVQ.

Also, Fire-Resistant Walls and Linings is a QCF unit within the Passive Fire Protection NVQ but looks to be carried out again predominantly by drywall operatives onsite.

This will enable competence certification from the awarding body, for construction tradesmen for elements of their work that currently sits outside their full NVQ qualification they hold.

These courses are fully funded, they enable training and then QCF unit accreditation at no cost to the learner or employer. Each course below includes four hours of classroom-based training before then being assessed onsite for the relevant units.
